Welcome to our new Principal, Mr. Flores
Dear Hawking STEAM Charter Families, Staff, and Students,
My name is Jorge Flores-Blanco, and I am truly honored and humbled by the opportunity of joining the Hawking STEAM Charter community as the new proud Principal of Hawking 1.
I was born and raised in Honduras, a small country in Central America, and moved to National City in 1996. My journey in education began at Florence Elementary in the San Diego Unified School District. I later joined Teach for America and moved to Las Vegas, where I taught middle school math for three years and then returned to San Diego in 2013.
For over a decade, I served in the charter school community, where I have had the opportunity to grow as both an educator and a leader. I served as a middle school math, science, and Spanish teacher, a Vice Principal of Instruction—partnering closely with teachers to strengthen pedagogical practices—and in the 2024-2025 school year, as Interim Executive Director, where I supported school wide systems, strategic planning, and student achievement initiatives. In addition, during this past school year, I had the privilege of serving as Vice Principal in the Santee School District, which has further strengthened my commitment to building strong school communities centered on student success and equity.
In addition to my work in K–12 education, I have the honor of supporting future educators as an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego and as a lecturer at San Diego State University. In these roles, I have taught courses focused on math and science methods and bilingual education, helping prepare the next generation of teachers to serve diverse student populations with excellence and care.
These collective experiences have shaped my belief that strong relationships, high expectations, and a supportive, engaging learning environment are the foundation for student success.
As I begin this new chapter at Hawking STEAM Charter, I am filled with excitement and optimism for the years ahead. I look forward to meeting our students, building meaningful connections with families, and collaborating with our dedicated staff to continue fostering a culture of innovation, curiosity, and excellence—where every child feels valued and can excel.

Démos la bienvenida a nuestro nuevo director, Mr. Flores
Estimadas familias, personal y estudiantes de Hawking STEAM Charter:
Mi nombre es Jorge Flores-Blanco y me siento verdaderamente honrado y agradecido por la oportunidad de unirme a la comunidad de Hawking STEAM Charter como el nuevo y orgulloso Director de Hawking 1.
Nací y crecí en Honduras, un pequeño país en Centroamérica, y me mudé a National City en 1996. Mi trayectoria en la educación comenzó en la primaria Florence, en el Distrito Escolar Unificado de San Diego. Más adelante, me uní a Teach for America y me mudé a Las Vegas, donde enseñé matemáticas de secundaria durante tres años, para luego regresar a San Diego en 2013.
Durante más de una década, he servido en la comunidad de escuelas chárter, donde he tenido la oportunidad de crecer como educador y como líder. Me desempeñé como maestro de matemáticas, ciencias y español en secundaria, como Subdirector de Instrucción—colaborando estrechamente con los maestros para fortalecer las prácticas pedagógicas—y, en el año escolar 2024–2025, como Director Ejecutivo Interino, donde apoyé sistemas a nivel escolar, la planificación estratégica y las iniciativas enfocadas en el crecimiento estudiantil. Además, durante este año escolar pasado, tuve el privilegio de servir como Subdirector en el Distrito Escolar de Santee, lo cual ha fortalecido aún más mi compromiso de construir comunidades escolares sólidas centradas en el éxito estudiantil y la equidad.
Además de mi trabajo en la educación K–12, tengo el honor de apoyar a futuros educadores como profesor adjunto en la Universidad de San Diego y como catedrático en la Universidad Estatal de San Diego. En estos roles, he impartido cursos enfocados en métodos de enseñanza de matemáticas y ciencias, así como en educación bilingüe, ayudando a preparar a la próxima generación de maestros para servir a poblaciones estudiantiles diversas con excelencia y dedicación.
Estas experiencias en conjunto han moldeado mi convicción de que las relaciones sólidas, las altas expectativas y un entorno de aprendizaje de apoyo y participación son la base del éxito estudiantil.
Al comenzar este nuevo capítulo en Hawking STEAM Charter, me llena de entusiasmo y optimismo por los años venideros. Estoy emocionado por conocer a nuestros estudiantes, construir conexiones significativas con las familias y colaborar con nuestro dedicado personal para seguir fomentando una cultura de innovación, curiosidad y excelencia—donde cada estudiante se sienta valorado y pueda sobresalir.
